About Malpeis
Malpeis is Lanzarote's pioneering craft brewery, which opened its brewery in Tinajo in February 2016. It was founded by musician and brewmaster Orlando Niz and agricultural engineer and oenologist Tania Delgado, and its beers are unfiltered and unpasteurised. Named after the volcanic 'malpais' landscape that defines the island, Malpeis brews a range of distinctive beers inspired by international styles but rooted in Lanzarote's volcanic identity. Every batch is brewed on the island using carefully selected ingredients, creating beers that capture the spirit of Lanzarote's rugged terrain.
The name 'Malpeis' comes from 'malpaís' — the Canarian word for the rough, dark lava fields that cover much of Lanzarote. Their three original beers are named after the colours of Lanzarote's land: Jable (the white sand of the beaches), Bermeja (the reddish earth) and Rofe (volcanic ash, or lapilli).
